The Deputy Director of Operations (DDO) position is a key member of the Senior Management Team at the Milwaukee Art Museum. The DDO is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Museum and manages the financial budget and revenue for the Museum Store, Food & Beverage, Campus Facilities & Grounds, Campus Security & Safety and the O’Donnell Park, garage and Pavilion. The DDO guarantees the smooth operations of all MAM campus grounds and provides the leadership, management and vision necessary to ensure that the Museum has the proper operational controls and efficiencies, administrative and reporting procedures, and people systems in place to effectively grow the organization. The DDO also works closely with the Museum Director to lead and implement the strategic planning efforts of the Museum.


• Oversee and provide day-to-day leadership and management to all reporting outlets within the museum.
• Responsible for driving the designated museum outlets to achieve and surpass sales, profitability, cash flow and business goals and objectives.
• Responsible for the measurement and effectiveness of all processes internal and external.
• Provides timely, accurate and complete reports on the operating condition of the museum to the Museum Director and the Senior Management Team.
• Spearhead the development, communication and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
• Assist the Museum Director in leading and implementing the strategic planning efforts for MAM.
• Collaborate with the management team to develop and implement plans for the operational infrastructure of systems, processes, and personnel designed to accommodate the rapid growth objectives of our organization.
• Motivate, lead, and mentor a high performance management team.
• Review and negotiate all operationally related contracts and act as primary point of contact.
• Assess and manage risks, monitor and ensure adequate coverage for all aspects of Museum operations.
• Participate in expansion activities (investments, purchases, property acquisitions, etc.)
• Manage relationships with partners/vendors.
• Assist the CFO with financial projections and analyses of any operational expenses.
• Helm budgeting and allocation efforts of reporting outlets. Ensure designated accuracies on Power Plan.
• Ensure all departments in retail are using our point-of-service retail software TAM (Technological Assistant Manager) properly.
• Effectively work with the board and board committees to achieve business goals” since you mentioned the DDO would work with several board committees.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has overall supervisory responsibility for the Museum Store, Food & Beverage, Campus Facilities & Grounds, Campus Security & Safety and O’Donnell Park, garage and grounds.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position regularly requires long hours and occasional weekend work.

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area travel may be expected.

Required Education and Experience
1. Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
2. At least eight years of strong operational experience.
3. At least five years in a senior management role.

Preferred Education and Experience
1. Master’s degree in business or related field.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications
1. Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience overseeing retail businesses and operation of facilities.
2. Skilled in organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning.
3. Excellent people skills, with an ability to partner with a dynamic leadership team.
4. Possess personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the museum’s mission.
5. Flexible and able to multitask; can work within an ambiguous, fast-moving environment, while also driving toward clarity and solutions; demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and guiding investment in people and systems.
